Boat sharing: the sea is the new frontier of shared travel

Sharing economy right now!

For many, a boat is a pipe dream. But if you can share the expenses with other sea enthusiasts, even an offshore holiday can become a reality. That is why specialised boat-sharing sites are multiplying here too. After hotels, flats, cars and buses, the sharing economy places another piece in the crowded mosaic of the travel sector.

The sharing economy takes off. In the true sense of the word. Because, after living rooms and transport, another wall is about to fall. No more cities, houses, hotels, roads and motorways: now, thanks to the sharing economy, we set sail. Boat sharing has all the characteristics to become the new frontier of sharing. Just as, for example, Uber and BlaBlaCar do for cars, Airbnb for rooms, GoGoBus for buses, now even those who want to book a boat can do so from their computer, contacting the boat owners directly and saving a lot of money. The fact of ‘sharing’ a trip or a stay with other people – whether in a hotel or in a flat – has in recent years made it possible for many people to organise holidays that would otherwise be difficult. Not everyone can afford a comfortable car or a luxury room. But a boat is a different matter: apart from the stratospheric costs, there are all those incidental expenses (fuel, mooring, storage, on-board equipment) that turn sailing into a bloodletting.
